The goals and objectives of the society are to bring together the microbiologists working in different fields and share their experiences and ideas so that they can contribute to the development of this nation in a more coherent and organized manner. Formation of the society paved the way to the establishment of the Department of Microbiology atdifferent Universities of Bangladesh, including University of Dhaka. Since its inception, BSM has been publishing a peer reviewed journal Bangladesh Journal of Microbiology (BJM).
