November 18 marks the beginning of World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week. Declared by the World Health Organization (WHO), this is a global event celebrated annually from November 18–24 to raise awareness about the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and encourage actions to address this public health crisis. This year’s theme, “Educate. Advocate. Act Now” emphasizes the need for immediate action to tackle AMR, reduce the spread of drug-resistant microorganisms, and educate the public about responsible antimicrobial use.
In observance of World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week (WAAW), the Bangladesh Society of Microbiologists (BSM) is taking proactive steps to engage the community, in the fight against AMR, and has arranged two different programs-
Awareness Campaigns in the young generation:
BSM has successfully engaged volunteers to lead awareness campaigns in schools across Dhaka. Our dedicated volunteers will distribute informative flyers and host discussions to educate students on the dangers of AMR, the importance of responsible antibiotic use, and the broader impact of antimicrobial resistance on global health. The goal is to empower young minds to recognize the challenges posed by AMR and inspire them to take action.
AMR Symposium:
On Sunday, November 24, 2024, BSM is organizing a Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance at 2:30 PM. Esteemed researchers and experts from various disciplines will present their latest research on AMR, shedding light on current challenges, advancements, and strategies to combat resistance. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals, students, and enthusiasts to engage with cutting-edge research on AMR.
We invite you to attend the symposium.
