On November 18, 2024, the Bangladesh Society of Microbiologists (BSM) launched its voluntary activities for World Antimicrobial Awareness Week to educate people about antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a serious health issue affecting many around the world. Volunteers from BRAC University and Dhaka University visited several schools, including West End High School, Azimpur Government Girls School and College, Nilkhet High School, BIAM Model School and College, and Government Laboratory High School. This will continue for other schools during this week. They held engaging sessions where they explained what AMR is, how it develops, and why it matters. The volunteers also shared practical tips on how to prevent infections and combat resistance. To help reinforce the message, they handed out informative flyers that students and teachers could take home. The response was enthusiastic, with students and teachers actively participating in discussions and sharing their thoughts on the presentations. This initiative is part of a larger effort during WAAW to spread awareness and encourage everyone to take action against
antimicrobial resistance.
